Any male or female student in the graduating class of a high school or preparatory school, who is a citizen of the United States of America and a resident within the State of Connecticut, who plans to engage in the professional studies of health education, physical education, recreation or dance, may file an application. Such students must plan to pursue a certified program of studies in a collegiate institution in Connecticut offering a Bachelor’s degree. PLEASE NOTE: The word health refers to school health teaching, not nursing, public health or psychology.

Applicant Criteria

Students must provide evidence of scholarship, competence, future potential in their chosen career and general worthiness.

Additional Required Information

The following ADDITIONAL essential details are required:

  • Copy of student transcript.
  • Please do not duplicate reports of accomplishments.
  • A statement of not more than 300 words prepared by the applicant stating the applicant’s educational objectives, which would qualify him/her for the scholarship award. The statement should include a summary of school and out-of-school activities and accomplishments.
  • A letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, or adult advisor of an activity you are involved in.

Scholarship Award Process

All scholarships are in the form of certificate of award conditioned upon enrollment of the student in the undergraduate program in an accredited college or university. Upon receipt of notice of enrollment from proper officials, a check from CTAHPERD in the amount of $1,000.00 ($500.00 each for 2 semesters) will be forwarded to the college or university to establish a credit for the student. This scholarship may be applied toward tuition, books, or room/board.

Unexpended credit is subject to withdrawal if the conduct of student is contrary to principles of law and order and morality supported by the college or university. Unexpended credit will also be withdrawn in incidence where students transfer and are no longer majors in one of the four fields encompassed by this scholarship.
